Dear Friends,

On behalf of our family, we wish to extend to you or heartfelt thanks for your interest in and support of the Simon Sharp Eagle Fund. Our son, Simon, was a blessing to us and has become an inspiration to many, both here in Jackson and in our hometown, Celebration, Florida.

Just days after our move to Jackson in 2006, he was diagnosed with leukemia at the Mississippi Children’s Cancer Clinic at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. His courageous 15-month battle against the disease ended the day after he became an Eagle Scout.

In November 2008, a year after his death, his dream was realized as a veterans memorial was dedicated in his honor in Celebration. His Eagle Scout project was to raise money for its construction. Before his illness, Simon raised more than $15,000. A fellow Scout took up the baton and, with an outpouring of community support, raised $65,000 more to complete its construction.

We established the Simon Sharp Eagle Fund as a way to remember and honor Simon and to support organizations that meant so much in his life like the Batson Children’s Hospital and the Boy Scouts.

Through fundraisers like Chefs and the City—the fund’s inaugural event which featured the culinary talents of six of the city’s top chefs—we have already raised more than $30,000 for these worthy causes. It is our hope that the Eagle Fund will continue to grow and perhaps eventually become a foundation.

We feel this is a wonderful way to honor Simon while doing good for children and young adults in our community. Again, we greatly appreciate your interest and support and hope that you will join in our effort to improve the lives of young Mississippians.

Sincerely,
Peter and Tamar Sharp

The Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children has treated thousands of children stricken with leukemia and other cancers, helping to bring survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent to better than 70 percent in the last 30 years.

The Boy Scouts of America—Andrew Jackson Council serves over 21,000 youth annually in 22 counties of Central and Southwest Mississippi with the help of over 3,000 volunteers and in collaboration with over 500 chartering organizations.
